and
Managing your eLearning Project with Ray Jimenez, PhD
A Full-Day Two-Part Workshop
Friday, April 16, 2010, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
PART 1: Using eLearning to Improve Performance with Linda Rening, PhD.
What if you built an eLearning curriculum and nothing happened? Imagine: the courses got the highest ratings on learner evaluations, everyone passed the test at 85% or better, and nothing changed as a result. That is a training professional's worst nightmare come true!
Too often when we design eLearning, we start with the wrong question: What do learners need to know? Or we start with the wrong decision: We'll do a Webinar…Knowledge is important, and Webinars are perfectly acceptable training tools when used appropriately, but a performance-focused approach is more likely to yield better results.
You will learn:
- How to focus on performance first
- The criteria for deciding what media to use
- How to apply different media effectively based on the advantages and limitations of each medium
- How Web 2.0–Wikis, blogs, social learning networks–might serve your goals
- Possibilities for mobile learning
- Ways to combine media to get the best results
- How to build a progression of learning and engagement
Who is presenting the workshop?
Linda Rening, Ph.D., is the Learning Strategy Director for BI's Learning and Organizational Effectiveness group, where she creates innovative ways to solve training challenges for their clients. She has more than 25 years of experience in learning and education, both in the public and private sectors, and has conducted training seminars, facilitated meetings and conferences, and consulted for a variety of national and international clients.
PART 2: Managing your eLearning Project with Ray Jimenez, Ph.D.
You've been assigned an eLearning project. Expectations are high because of all the tech hype. How is this project different from the classroom-based projects you've done? Is this a time to panic or a time to take action? You know you need to deliver. The organization and your learners demand it of you.
A little panic is healthy as long as it doesn't cripple you. This workshop can straighten your spine so you can take on the challenge head-on. Traditional trainers often get trapped into designing training around antiquated techniques. eLearning is a new craft. An eLearning designer can design a tailored performance solution. After the training, you will be able to create a plan to manage an eLearning project effectively.
You will learn to:
- Develop rules to help you manage the project
- Identify obstacles and avoid risk to ensure project success
- Determine your learning approach (simulations, fact-based, others)
- Complete your plan
Who should attend the workshop?
- eLearning designers, new and seasoned, looking to maximize their effort and improve their craft.
- Traditional trainers looking to position themselves for blended learning approaches.
- Managers and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) trying to understand the eLearning process and the tools available to help them improve the performance of their teams.
- Decision Makers who don't understand the value and limits of eLearning and want to make an informed decision.
Who is presenting the workshop?
Ray Jimenez, PhD., is a Learning and Systems Architect with more than 20 years' experience in technology-assisted learning and social systems. He is the Chief Architect for Vignettes Learning, http://www.vignetteslearning.com/. He has won awards from Training Magazine and Simplify eLearning.
