Managing Under Pressure Details
Budgets are slashed. Resources are thin. People are stressed. The pressure is on.
What can leaders and managers do to manage effectively under pressure? How can we help them manage themselves, their direct reports, and their organizations?
Scott Wimer will present a model and practical tools for managing under pressure.
In our organizational development (OD) and training roles, we can help managers by providing strategies and techniques for self-management, time management, and people management. In managing people, a key skill is coaching. Under pressure, many managers revert to a less adaptive style, and their coaching skills tend to suffer. Yet that is exactly when people need the most clear communication, guidance and support. In other words, they need excellent coaching.
Scott will set an overarching framework for coaching by presenting the Nowack-Wimer C.O.A.C.H. model. Participants will:
- learn and practice concrete coaching skills we can readily teach to managers
- examine specific coaching techniques we can use effectively under pressure
- learn practical self-management tools for staying calm under fire
- understand methods for coaching non-trusting and resistant employees
Could the timing for this event be any better? Could there be a better chapter meeting to invite your colleagues (or manager) to attend? This is March Madness, where you can bring a non-member to attend with you at no charge! Yes, bring your boss and he or she will walk away better equipped to manage under pressure.
