BUILDING PROFESSIONAL RELEVANCE USING SOCIAL MEDIA Relevance, as defined by Wikipedia is a term used to describe how pertinent, connected, or applicable something or someone is to a given matter. Many workshops on Social Media focus on Marketing. Most professionals know mailing out coupons or links to your website usually results in poor returns. Have you ever really thought about WHY? You are confident you have a worthy product or service. You know the client could benefit. It seems only natural that letting him or her know you exists should be enough energy to move business your way. Somehow it just isn’t that easy. Social Media is no exception. The effectiveness of this approach is challenged in the real or virtual world. One of the reasons could be a lack of established RELEVANCE. Clients have a tendency to appear in the presence of RELEVANCE. Some flick their nose up at Social Media calling it a waste of their time and a fad. The research is clear at this point. Social Media is not a fad but a fundamental shift in a way that we as a social and professional community communicate and share with each other. Whether it is a waste of your time depends on your ability to see its value. However, make no mistake it is in our lives and is showing no evidence of retrieval. The purpose of this workshop is to help you embrace the value of Social Media. After completing the workshop you will be able to develop your Social Media strategy for building the RELEVANCE of your external (and internal) consulting practice in the community you serve. Terrence Wing is the Chief Learning Officer and founder for Liquid Learn, a service provider specializing in blended training (eLearning, Instructor Led, Social Learning) and performance support for entry to junior level managers as they transition from labor to management. He is also consulting with ASTDLA as they develop and prepare to launch their Social Media Campaign. Join Terrence as he explores the many options available to help you launch your Relevance Strategy. During the workshop, you will: · Identify compulsive reasons to use Social Media · Select the tool(s) that seems right for you and your business · Breach barriers to common problems and false expectations · Define your Relevance Goal · Identify steps to help you achieve that goal This workshop is built for application not academics. You’ll achieve the learning objectives through exercises, discussions, reflections, and application tours. Prepare to either become RELEVANT or increase your current RELEVANCE.
